Carolina Tiger Rescue is a 501(c)3 nonprofit wildlife sanctuary whose mission is saving and protecting wild cats in captivity and in the wild.
The 2018 edition of Carolina Tiger Rescue’s Black Tie & Tails Ball was a huge and historic success. The ball, which is our premier fundraising event, brought in more than $122,000 worth of support for the animals! The highest previous amount was about $96,000. Included in the 2018 figure was the $25,000 fund-a-cause needed to build a small animal habitat so that our resident coatimundis and kinkajous can live outdoors during the winter more comfortably.
Bidders during the live auction raised $17,000 for the habitat, and then an anonymous donor came forward with the remainder.
There were about 170 guests at the ball, and the event attracted a record 35 sponsors. Vital Management Services was the lone $5,000 Jaguar Premier sponsor.
There were several new live auction items this year — and it was a battle in the ballroom for them!

The decorative cake from Maxie B’s bakery in Greensboro started the spirited live auction. The bid started at $500, and the cake sold for $4,000!
An exclusive Moonlight and Wine at the rescue package went for $4,600.
The hottest ticket of them all was a Cat-Tastic day — or, a day with Carolina Tiger veterinarian Dr. Angela Lassiter. The bidding war started at $500 and the once-in-a-lifetime experience’s final price was $6,500. The transaction was met by hugs from Dr. Lassiter and other staff members, cheers, and applause from guests. The vet day was a new auction item this year.

The winning bid was $4,000 for the live auction devil’s food cake
