Carolina Tiger Rescue is a 501(c)3 nonprofit wildlife sanctuary whose mission is saving and protecting wild cats in captivity and in the wild.
Star Cougar came to Carolina Tiger Rescue from a roadside zoo in Mississippi that shut down. She is a healthy and happy cougar with us, but roadside zoos aren’t always the best places for these animals. Star’s former home was shut down because the facility was no longer safe for the animals or the people who were visiting. The owners were so upset that they burned the animals’ medical records. Katie Cannon, our education director, discusses cougars and why you should think twice before visiting a roadside zoo. Cougars have many names, and Star demonstrates why one of them is mountain screamer!
