Dr. Chloe Wilde is our wildlife biologist. She studied ecology at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Her favorite topic of study is conservation. Dr. Wilde is passionate about learning about and teaching others about how they can help wild cat populations, including reducing their use of products with palm oil in them. Though Carolina Tiger Rescue does not have any, Dr. Wilde’s favorite animal to study is the clouded leopard.

We had a blast at summer camp this year at Carolina Tiger Rescue and I can’t wait to tell you all about it! With six weeks of camp and campers ranging in age from 3rd grade all the way through high school, the campers participated in a wide variety of activities at the sanctuary. The campers learned about the species and individuals that call Carolina Tiger Rescue home and our younger campers even finished the week off by sharing what they learned on a camper led tour!

Some of the highlights from camp this year included watching Carolina tiger and Mila tiger create beautiful Pawcasso paintings, watching our keeper team feed the cats and learning how researchers track wild tigers and estimate tiger populations. Campers also participated in an escape room where they had to use the information they learned about caracals to complete the puzzles, created enrichment for the cats and had the opportunity to make their very own picture puzzles to take home.

Our high school campers participated in a field trip to NC State where they got to see and learn about a research lab in the biological sciences department. They had some great questions and learned so much from Professor Hartstone-Rose. On the last day of high school camp, our campers had to the opportunity to observe a veterinary procedure on one of our small cats. This was just a routine checkup for the cats and a great opportunity for our campers to learn about veterinary care.

Camp was an absolute blast this summer and we can’t wait to have even more fun next year!
