Carolina Tiger Rescue is a 501(c)3 nonprofit wildlife sanctuary whose mission is saving and protecting wild cats in captivity and in the wild.
Palm oil production is the leading cause of habitat loss for Sumatran tigers. At least 90 percent of their habitat has been claimed by palm oil plantations. The unsustainable production of this easily-grown vegetable oil is destroying life for wild tigers and the biodiversity around them. About 300 football field’s worth of rain forest is cut down each hour to make way for palm oil farms. Our education director Katie goes into detail about what palm oil is and what you can do to limit your consumption of it, as palm oil is found in more than 50 percent of consumable goods — from shampoo to cereals.
