Jellybean Tiger ~ 1997 - 2015 ~
On Friday, June 19th, Carolina Tiger suffered the loss of our beloved and most reknown resident Jellybean Tiger due to heart failure.
Jelly, you were the favorite of many children, an treasured experience for tour guests, an adored personality to volunteers, the darling of your adoptive parents; and, as the last big cat remaining from when they first came to Carolina Tiger, an end of an era for many long-term staff and volunteers- you were part of our first sense of awe when we were granted the privilege of working on behalf of big cats.
HB554 "Protect Public from Dangerous Wild Animals" passed NC Legislature
HB 554 passed the committee unanimously, and passed the House 80 to 32! The bill now moves to the Senate.
Thanks to our supporters for taking the time to honestly and respectfully speak out on this issue, particularly those who contacted their legislators to express support. We are saddened that added exemptions allow tiger cubs to be used for photo ops and indiscriminate breeding to continue, but we are thrilled that progress is made towards identifying the numbers of wildcats in private ownerships and towards creating standards to protect the public.
More details coming soon as we continue to work to end private ownership of dangerous wild animals.!
